Motivational Experiences for Drug Dealers (M.E.D.D.)

This program brings offenders convicted of dealing drugs into a unique environment and gives them the opportunity to examine their behavior in a group setting. The focus is on personal responsibility and an understanding of how their behavior affects Communities, Families and Individuals.  The results of interaction between drug offenders and families dealing with loved ones who are drug-involved is truly inspirational.  It leads to that “ah-hah!” moment on both sides, that moment of enlightenment that leads to healing and recovery for all parties.

MEDD Program facilitators include our R.C.M.P liaison officer, our group facilitator(s) and usually forty to seventy individuals who attend Parents Empowering Parents. This program was an overwhelming success in our first one-year pilot.  It has been endorsed by the participants who have graduated and found the experience to be “life-changing”.

There are presently two groups operating - one on the Southside and the other in Sherwood Park. The participants are welcome to attend both groups. Offenders that are referred should be clean from intoxicants and ready to examine their actions and behaviors.

Referrals to the group may come from Probation, Drug Courts, Private Counsellors and Agencies dealing with Addictions. The Offender may be referred to meet their treatment counselling needs of Community Service Work.

Should you wish to refer an individual to MEDD, please notify Probation Officer Tina Dow, Sherwood Park or Maralyn Benay, Family Support Worker by email or telephone.  A sign in sheet will be created for your client. This sheet will be signed by one of the facilitators each time the offender attends the group. Any issues with the client will be relayed to the referring party in a timely manner.
